About the NCPF
The Northern Counties Photographic Federation (NCPF) is one of fifteen such organisations that between them cover the whole of the United Kingdom. When it was founded in 1901 its purpose was summarised in these terms:- “It exists solely for the purpose of enabling the various Federated Societies to mutually assist each other for the advancement of Photography”. The current Constitution simplifies this but retains the essential element in describing the object of the Federation as being:-
“The Advancement of Photography”
In 1930 the various federations came together to create the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain, designed to provide a similar service to the Federations but at a national level. A slightly more detailed history of the Federation can be found on the “History” page but; for those who wish to read the definitive history of the Federation, they can do no better than obtain a copy of the book, “A History of the Northern Counties Photographic Federation 1901 – 2001” prepared by our Honorary Life Vice President, Stan Bewick AFIAP APSA APAGB, and published to celebrate the Federations’ Centenary.
We serve about 50 clubs across the North of England, including the counties of Northumberland, Tyne & Wear, Durham, Cleveland and the northern part of Cumbria. A number of clubs from North Yorkshire and the Scottish Borders are also members, as are some national organisations. The Federation is divided into six geographical Areas, each of which can organise functions on a more local level. The Federation’s affairs are run by the Executive Committee, which organises a range of services and functions for its member clubs and their individual members.
