NCPF Annual Competitions
NOTICE:- The The 2014 Competitions Rules, Entry Forms and Labels are now available via the links lower down this page.
The Annual Competitions are the main competitive event organised by the Federation. They have a long tradition, dating back to the early days of the Federation. They are and have always been open to all affiliated clubs and their members free of charge.
The Annual Competitions have changed over the years to reflect changes in photography, but their ethos remains essentially the same. Many of the Trophies awarded each year reflect the long history of the Federation, for example the oldest, the “Corder Trophy”, dates back a century to 1910 was donated by the then retiring President, Walter S Corder.
Whilst a detailed description of the current structure of the Competitions will be included in downloadable files as the competition approaches, there is value in a short explanation here.
All entries are chosen and made by individual members of our affiliated clubs. They can be in two formats:-
Prints, including sections for Monochrome and Colour
Digital Projected Images
In each format there are Classes for Open and Beginners entries. Entries are collated together by the various clubs and then submitted to the Federations Competitions Officers.
The actual event is held over a weekend in April, and whilst not open to general viewing, does require a small army of volunteers. The Competitions Organiser will always welcome with open arms new as well as regular helpers, and they of course get chance to see the event take place. Any one interested should contact the Competitions Organiser (see contact email address below).
The Open Classes are judged by a panel of three experienced Judges, two from outside the Federation and one from our own Judges’ List. The Beginners Classes are judged by an NCPF Judge. Trophies are awarded in each Section for the best club entries as well as for the best entries by individual members. There are a number of trophies for the best individual entries in various categories such as Portrait, Landscape, Nature and Creative, as well as Highly Commended Certificates. Finally there is a trophy, “The Joan Rooker Centenary Trophy” for the best photograph of the competition.

SELECTORS CHOICE PORTFOLIO
After the Alliance entry has been chosen a further panel of NCPF Judges look at the remainder and select a portfolio of prints and images designed to reflect the work of individual Federation members.
After the Competitions have been completed the Portfolio Secretary prepares two separate portfolios that are available on CD for individual clubs to book for their programmes. The first, known as the “Awards Portfolio” comprises the award winning images, including, winning club entries, Highly Commended work and any selected for the Alliance Competitions. The second comprises of those images chosen to reflect our members work and is known as “The Selectors’ Choice Portfolio”.
